Marine Power Systems was recently asked to carry out a routine service on a classic stretched 28ft Marlborough launch powered by a Volvo Penta AD41A diesel engine coupled to a Volvo Penta 290 sterndrive.
As the inspection progressed, it became clear that the ageing engine required extensive repairs. Restoring the existing package would involve significant labour and parts costs, with no guarantee against future age-related issues. After discussing the available options with the owner, the decision was made to invest in a complete repower instead.

Engineering the Installation
Repowering from a Volvo Penta AD41A to the latest generation D4 required more than simply replacing the engine.
Our technicians modified both the transom assembly and engine bearers to accommodate the new DPH drive and engine package, ensuring everything was correctly aligned and engineered to Volvo Penta specifications.
Careful planning and precise installation meant the modern drivetrain integrated seamlessly into the existing hull while preserving the boat's excellent handling characteristics.
