Harbour Tug – Power Measurements
Marine Power Systems Ltd were requested to perform a performance trial onboard a New Zealand port tug. The aim of the trial was to measure engine output power to assist diagnosis of a potential defect.
The TorqueTrak 10K instruments were installed on the main cardon shaft between engine and thruster. A total of 4 ‘pushes’ were made in bollard pull conditions. The instruments recorded shaft power and torque data from port and stbd shafts concurrently.
Later, this data was used alongside fuel consumption, exhaust temperatures and RPM to analyse performance of the engine and thruster units.
Marine Power Systems Ltd are able to measure torque, power, bending strain, thrust and temperature of any rotating shaft. We are also authorized sales distributors for TorqueTrak products throughout Australasia. Please contact us today to find out more.
