Marine Power Systems have a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and qualified marine diesel technician to join our team. This is a full-time position, offering $40 – 45/p/hr (commensurate with skills/abilities), 40 hours per week and a 4-day working week (Mon – Thurs) for the right applicant.

Marine Power Systems are a professional marine engineering business based in Kopu on the idyllic Coromandel Penninsular. As authorised dealers for Steyr Motors, Suzuki Marine and Volvo Penta, much of our work is focused on servicing, commissioning new engines, repowering vessels and providing high quality engineering support to commercial and recreational customers.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual with the following attributes:
Experienced marine diesel technician, qualified to NZQA level 4 in Marine Systems Engineering or equivalent. Able to accurately perform routine servicing and repair procedures on a range of diesel engines and transmissions. Must be adept in using OEM diagnostic equipment to accurately diagnose faults. Also able to repair a range of associated drive systems including but not limited to shafts, cutlass bearings, shaft seals, sterndrives, IPS drive units, stabilisers, steering systems, fuel systems, trim tabs etc. Must be comfortable with basic 12V and 24V electrical systems.
In addition, the successful applicant must possess the following attributes:
- At least 4 years’ experience in a marine servicing environment.
- Able to use online systems to identify OEM parts, service instructions, record service routines, lodge warranty claims, order parts for jobs and record job costs.
- Must be able to plan jobs and perform work unsupervised.
- Must display good interpersonal skills, able to maintain relationships with customers, suppliers and subcontractors as required.
- Must have a full driving license and be comfortable performing duties both in the workshop and on customers vessels situated around the Peninsular and further afield.
Applicants with prior experience with Volvo Penta equipment in a dealership environment will be highly prioritised.
You will receive an excellent rate of pay and be given opportunities to complete OEM training courses, both in NZ and overseas, to enhance your experience and skills.
